Cold Wax Mediums

Made with a combination of natural beeswax, Gamsol and a small amount of alkyd resin, Cold Wax Medium from Gamblin thickens & mattifies oil colours, offering rich textural variety. Available in several sizes, this dense paste gives a clean break from your brush or knife, retaining the sharp peaks of impasto & allowing for deep, expressive brush or knife marks, along with the ability to carve into your paint layers more readily. It also provides a beautiful translucent quality to oils, similar to the results of encaustic painting techniques. Unlike encaustic painting, "Cold" Wax Medium doesn't require heat to work with as the addition of Gamsol allows it to dry by solvent evaporation, which slowly hardens the medium to a beeswax candle-like density.
