This 2023 expression, matured for a full quarter-century, non-chill filtered and bottled at cask strength, spent its early years maturing in ex-bourbon casks, the whisky exhibited a pronounced sweetness, rich with red berries and vanilla. As it progressed into its teenage phase, this spirit evolved into a more mellow and well-rounded profile. In its twenties, the whisky allowed its fruitier aspects to come forth, harmoniously mingling with its inherent smokiness. Superb, as you would expect from a well-aged Laphroaig.
