FRESH SAWN GREEN OAK 150mm x 150mm Green oak is fresh sawn oak, which means it has been cut, and not seasoned. It will have a lot higher moisture content than kiln dried or air dried oak. Green oak will start to dry out soon after it has been sawn, it will shrink, and the appearance of the oak will change, with cracks and splits occurring. Sawn green oak may exhibit black or dark staining. This is a natural reaction caused by tannins in the oak leaching and reacting with metal (including steel bands, fixings, handling equipment, or metal contamination during processing or storage). These marks are cosmetic only, do not affect the structural integrity or performance of the timber, and are not considered a defect. Such staining is an inherent characteristic of green oak and is beyond our control. Green oak can be used in construction and landscaping. Please be aware that fresh sawn oak is liable to move as it dries out, so may not be suitable for some applications.
